Q: I have a great fledgling business but cannot move forward as I need money for advertising on the Internet. Are there any start-up business grants still available in this country? Can you suggest other methods of spreading the word?

Marketing doesn’t need to cost a fortune, so think outside the square for other ways to promote your business. Word of mouth is a very powerful tool, so encourage referrals with an incentive and attend seminars and events to build up your networks and become well known in your industry and local community.
Direct mail and email marketing can be very cost effective because they’re highly targeted, and remember it’s cheaper to keep existing customers than gain new ones, so promotional offers especially for them and loyalty schemes might be a good option for you.
