Many businesses are aiming for international markets next year
Many small businesses are setting their sites on trading abroad for the first time in 2011, research finds.
According to a study by telecommunications company O2 of more than 500 companies, 40 per cent are set to move into international markets over the next year, with a third claiming overseas economies are increasingly more welcoming to small businesses.
Six of the top ten markets of choice are outside Europe, with the most popular target destination for business growth being the United States, Britain’s largest export market.
Andrew Cahn, chief executive of UK Trade & Investment, says: ‘Small businesses need not be cut off from the global marketplace or feel that international business is only for big companies. In fact, for many smaller firms, trading abroad can be the path to greater success and growth.’

Tuesday 7th December 2010We provide a free service matching companies of all sizes with PR agencies, ad agencies, marketing firms, worldwide. We've seen a marked increase in the number of companies seeking PR agencies outside of the UK. The most popular are Poland and Africa. So while almost everyone else is sticking to the safe, tried and true - and ultra-competitive - the smart ones are going out the back door and initiating businesses in emerging markets. Risky? Yes, but no risk, no reward. By the way, as PR matchmakers, we used to focus on agencies that scored healthy media coverage. We now focus on a different ROI. We seek agencies that understand that they need to wear a bizdev hat as well as a PR cap. Proof? A recent PR match for a U.S. company is turning into almost $12m worth of deals in only four months.
