Starting a UK business as an EU national

Oct 14 2005

As an EU national, you have a legal right to work within the UK, as employee in a UK or foreign UK-based firm or by starting up your own business.

There are a number of sites dedicated to helping people start up their own business. In the first instance, you would need to register with the Inland Revenue as self-employed, as your National Insurance contributions would be smaller than if you worked as an employee. You can contact them on 08459-154515 or go to www.hmrc.gov.uk/startingup. This employee status is valid so long as person sets up company as sole trader if company is set up as a limited company then person is employed by company.
