Awards to recognise Britain's most enterprising region

Regions in the UK are competing to be crowned the most enterprising area in a competition to recognise Britain's entrepreneurial spirit.
Finalists from each of the English regions and one each from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are battling it out in the Enterprising Britain 2008 awards.
Judges in the competition include award-winning young entrepreneur James Murray Wells and Claire Dove, chair of the Social Enterprise Coalition Chair.
Innovative ideas have been recognised in the competition, with nominees' businesses raging from a Virtual College in Tynedale, a carnival arts centre, an Entrepreneur's Bootcamp in Plymouth to a crop-sharing scheme in Herefordshire.
Winner's prizes will include an increase in profile for their company, media coverage, support in press and PR, a trophy, the use of the competition's logo and the chance to enter the European Enterprise awards.
The competition is part of the government's strategy to encourage entrepreneurship and the growth of fledgling businesses in the UK.
Other initiatives being run in the government campaign include women's enterprise centres to encourage more women to start their own businesses.
