Small Business Week 2007 launched

Monday 29th October sees the start of a week-long initiative dedicated to championing the 4.5 million small enterprises in the UK. Small Business Week brings together Government, business experts and owner managers to discuss the barriers to success for the small business community.
The week, created by BT Business in partnership with the British Chambers of Commerce among others, will see a host of initiatives taking place, including a series of events, round-table discussions, web seminars, podcasts and advice clinics.
Bill Murphy, managing director of BT Business, comments: ‘Small and medium businesses are the lifeblood of the UK economy. But are the right resources and support structures in place to nurture these businesses, to enable them to grow and develop the skills they need to prosper?
‘We have joined together with like-minded organisations to launch Small Business Week 2007. We are committed to providing services to meet their needs, and want to better understand the challenges they face and the opportunities they must successfully exploit in order to survive and thrive.’
Commenting on the difficulties faced by small business owners, David Frost, director general of the British Chambers of Commerce, says: 'If we want continued success for small business in this country, two of the things that are needed, apart from the government to support business and provide a sound infrastructure, are low taxes and low regulation.'
