SMEs 'drowned out' by larger companies

SMEs are in danger of being "drowned out" by larger companies when it comes to connecting with the graduate community, according to an industry body.
The Graduate Recruitment Body (GRB) explains that SMEs do not have an established brand identity or a large advertising budget available to bigger companies.
As a result they miss out on communication channels with graduates, opened up for bigger organisations via the internet and newspaper advertising.
Chris Cater, director of the GRB says: 'A lot of SMEs will go through recruitment agencies but they can't really rely on their brand name because it is not as well known as BP and Barclays.'
He adds that graduates are aware of the opportunities but their problem is how to access them.
Recent research carried out by the Higher Education Statistics Authority revealed that graduate unemployment is higher than the national average.
It also found that it takes some students more than a year to find a job.
GRB is a specialist recruitment agency which exposes graduate opportunities and supports graduates through their job application.
