Internet presence essential for small businesses

Small businesses hoping to grow and become profitable must have an online presence, experts have claimed.

The Internet Advertising Bureau suggests that, in today's market, SME growth is unlikely to occur without the use of the web.

Commenting on the need for small enterprises to embrace the internet, Amy Kean spokesperson for the bureau says: 'It is essential to ensure that you have at least a basic web presence, basic in terms of at least giving the core information your customers will need to know about your business, in order to grow your audience.'

She adds: 'In July, four billion pounds was spent by consumers online, who are now using the internet as first port of call to research, compare and buy products.'

Figures compiled by Interact suggest that 78 per cent of firms use e mail to drive traffic to their website - and 58 per cent of customers receiving an e-mail either bought a product or requested further information.
