SMEs must copy large firm employment model

Small firms, hoping to compete with their larger counterparts to secure top employees, have to 'replicate' the benefits of bigger companies, claims the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB).
The FSB has said that small enterprises must implement a range of perks, health care and flexible work if they want to really compete with large companies.
To help SMEs become more competitive the FSB have launched FSB Care a scheme which provides health support to smaller firms.
Commenting on the scheme, Stephen Alambritis, head of public affairs at the FSB, says: 'Huge conglomerates may have an occupational health centre, will have doctors and nurses on call for the directors and for the staff, and we felt it was unfair that small business can't have that kind of service for themselves.'
He adds: 'There's stiff competition with large businesses in the UK. We want small firms to compete fairly and squarely with those large businesses.'
