Small business advice needs to be 'proactive'

The government's small business advice services ought to engage with enterprises to ensure organisations are making use of them, one expert claims.

Simon Briault, spokesperson for the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) suggests that most government schemes, such as Business Link, are relatively unknown among business owners.

Such services need to be 'more proactive' and seek out business owners to give them suitable advice, he says.

'They should aid them on the one hand by helping them to cope with existing and new legislation, and on the other, by letting them know about some of the incentives and grants that are available,' he states.

The FSB is currently the UK’s largest campaigning pressure group aiming to promote and protect the interests of the UK’s self-employed and small business owners.

Since being established in 1974, the FSB has grown to more than 205,000 members across its 230 branches.
