Tax burden crushes growth
Mar 02 2010
Growth in the SME sector is being stifled by a complicated tax system, claims the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB).
In a survey from the body, 75 per cent of small businesses believe they would be able to grow their business if the UK tax system was simplified.
John Wright, national chairman of the FSB, says: 'The government must recognise how important small businesses are to strengthening economic recovery. The potential investment and jobs which could be created [through a more simplified system] would provide the economy with the boost it needs to sustain recovery.’
Of the 1,600 small businesses surveyed, 52 per cent say taxable allowances pose the biggest problem when getting to grips with tax, while 34 per cent cite income tax as the most difficult.
