Legal pay action 'takes time'

Female workers seeking to take legal action over unequal pay should bear in mind the time a discrimination case will take.
Jessica Woodroffe, head of campaigns for the Fawcett Society, says that taking a case to court can take 'years and a great deal of courage'.
According to Woodroffe, one reason women are still paid less than men is due to employers sticking to traditional views and undervaluing the work women do.
She states many women are also given a lower salary as they have an 'unfair burden' of the childcare, in addition to the jobs women pick being underpaid.
However, Woodroffe adds some female workers being given a lower salary is 'just straight discrimination where employers are paying women less than men for jobs that require similar skills'.
She argues that the onus is on the individual woman to take her case further if she feels she is being discriminated against.
A recent survey from the Fawcett Society found the vast majority of men and women think more needs to be done to ensure women are paid equally.
