Businesses are utilising the internet to speed up communication and training for 'improved flexibility and accessibility of learning', say business experts.

E-skills say that SMEs realise that they need to impart information and skills to employees quicker and to where they are rather than force them to leave the workplace and go into the classroom.

Laura Overton, director of e-learning at e-skills UK, says: 'The things we need to know for our jobs are changing faster and faster as we are moving into a service economy.

'It's about how you keep people up-to-date with the latest information and the latest skills,' she adds.

Those organisations which have embedded e-learning into training packages have reported an increase in staff moral and learning in general.

According to research conducted by e-learn2work, a research project funded by the European Union, 89 per cent of businesses surveyed had an internet connection, with most subscribing to broadband.
