More industries are becoming IT sensitive

A 'broader mix' of people are receiving IT training and taking the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) user qualification, according to industry experts.
The British Computer Society (BCS) states that the cross-section of those receiving training is growing as more women and younger workers are taking qualifications.
David Evans, government relations manager for the BCS, says that more sectors are becoming sensitive to IT including those companies working in finance, health and the media.
'The result is that people who work in these sectors are having to become IT specialists, and IT experts in these fields are having to develop the deepest understanding of the sector they are working in,' he says.
As a result the profile of those working in IT sector will also change, he concludes.
However, the Guardian reported in November that applications to study computer science have dramatically dropped since the start of the decade.
In 2000, 500 students applied and 100 were accepted. Last year, 210 applied and 70 were accepted.
