The vast majority of small and medium-sized enterprises SMEs are now taking action to help preserve the environment.
SMEs have long been criticised for not doing enough to promote environmental concerns, but a new survey shows that 83 per cent of small companies are taking matters into their own hands.
The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), which carried out the research, hit back at recent figures from the Carbon Trust, arguing that SMEs are very active in this field.
FSB policy manager for the North West of England, Paul Henly was speaking to the Manchester Evening News.
He says: 'A lot more companies than people realise are doing their bit, for example by switching to more environmentally-friendly lights and sending cardboard for recycling instead of simply throwing it away.
'Increasingly, companies are seeing that the benefits go through to the bottom line. If they cut energy bills and other costs, they make more profit.'
