A major new initiative has been launched in an effort to help businesses shrink their carbon footprint and save money at the same time.

The Carbon Trust has announced a new package of carbon footprint resources aimed at helping businesses understand the idea of a carbon footprint, calculate their own carbon impact and find out ways to reduce it.

According to the trust, businesses could reduce carbon emissions by over 2.7 million tonnes and save almost £350 million on their energy bills by following their energy saving suggestions.

Tom Delay, chief executive of the Carbon Trust, says: 'We want all businesses to take advantage of our new free online carbon footprint calculator to help them measure and ultimately reduce their carbon emissions.

'Businesses that act will quickly reap the multiple benefits of improving their bottom line while increasing their overall competitiveness,' he adds.

The Carbon Trust offers interest free loans of between £5,000 and £100,000 for small and medium-sized businesses looking to purchase energy-saving equipment.
