IT training for free

Small- and medium-sized firms in Bristol can now get training in information technology for free, through a scheme funded by the Learning & Skills Council West of England and the European Social Fund.

The scheme is open to SMEs with up to 250 employees and is designed to encourage small firms to develop IT skills in applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Office, as well as the more advanced Microsoft Professional Certificate. It is hoped that having these abilities in-house will lessen the need to employ expensive outside contractors.

Training will be provided by Internet Exchange, a chain of high street internet stores. An initial training needs analysis will be conducted to determine participants’ requirements. Training can then be undertaken at companies’ own offices or at Internet Exchange’s Training Centre in Bristol.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for Bristol businesses. IT training is normally a major expense for any company, especially small businesses and start-up, but now they have the opportunity to get professional training for their staff,” says James Golfar, director of training for Internet Exchange.

The scheme is open to the first 75 companies to register, and will run until March 2004.

For further information, or to register, contact: Nishma Shah, Internet Exchange Training Centres, telephone 0800-917 5425, or email nishma.shah@internet-exchange.co.uk.
