Britain is a good place to start a business

'Setting up a business in the UK is mercifully quite an easy thing to do', claims a business expert.

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) says it is easier to start up a business due to the lack of legislation you need to adhere to.

Simon Briault, a spokesperson for the FSB, says: 'There isn’t the red-tape and the legal hoops to jump through that you have in other European countries.'

'For example, in France you can’t set up a business unless you first become a member of the professional organisation that regulates them,' he adds.

Legislation for SMEs becomes more complex when they look to expand and begin using employment laws and tackling health and safety issues.

Findings from a recent survey of SMEs by the Financial Times found that 57 per cent of respondents saw the UK as a good place to set up a business.

A further 40 per cent said that the business climate in the UK was comparable with the US, an environment which is viewed as a gold standard by which other countries should be measured.
