Q: Could you please suggest a good introductory book on the tax basics of importing goods into the UK? Any suggestions of where I could get in this would be much appreciated.

I’ve been unable to locate a book which might meet your requirements. However there are a number of areas online which should help.

A good starting point is the Busineslink.gov.uk website, where there is an intorduction to tax basics - click here.

It also has a section on Import basics - click here.

Also at the Exercise & VAT in international trade section there’s an interactive tool to help you through the issues with importing.

Other sources of advice include the local Business Link will have access to specialist Export/ Import advisers. Your local Chamber of Commerce will be able to help with basic information and advice on courses.
