Small businesses say they are confident about the economic outlook.

Some 77 per cent of SMEs expect to see an improvement in business this year, according to a poll from computer company Cisco.

Of the 1,000 businesses surveyed, 57 per cent say that they have taken steps to refocus their business on the customer, while 43 per cent admitted to taking no action.

David Critchley, head of SME and commercial for Cisco, says: ‘A large number of small businesses are taking matters into their own hands and making things better for themselves by remodelling their business around the needs of their customers, embracing new technology, routes to market, and ways of communicating with their audiences.’
