Being asked about holiday plans while getting a haircut might seem like idle chat, but hairdressers are the tradespeople customers have the best relationship with, claims a poll.
Some 26 per cent say hairdressers are the tradespeople they trust the most, while 42 per cent trust car salesmen the least, according to the survey from internet services provider Gradwell.
Chris Lewis, occupational psychologist, says: ‘Because we are in close physical contact with hairdressers and driving instructors for example, we pay special attention in their selection.
‘Allowing oneself to be accessible, traceable and contactable arguably [will create] trust. Ultimately, feeling good about a tradesperson is key for a customer. Having lots of gadgets will not compensate for lack of skill and customers are aware of that.’
Of the 2,000 people questioned, 63 per cent say they would be more likely to trust a member of a professional body or association.
