Businesses feel more optimistic about the year ahead than they did 12 months ago, according to business advisory firm Grant Thornton.
Some 63 per cent of companies say they are positive about their business prospects this year, compared with 47 per cent in 2009, while 58 per cent anticipate a rise in sales compared to 37 per cent the previous year.
David Campbell, regional managing partner, says: ‘Many private companies in the UK had adopted strategies to ride out the recession and are able to project forward with greater confidence.’
Of the 500 businesses surveyed, 55 per cent say they also expect their profits to increase this year in contrast to 28 per cent last year.
However, despite expectations that the UK will soon announce a return to growth, two-thirds of employers are anticipating another year of wage freezes and cuts, says the British Chambers of Commerce.
