Employers need to motivate staff for next year, as a third of workers feel more negative about their job prospects than a year ago.
Some 36 per cent of employees say they feel less secure in their jobs than a year ago, while only 13 per cent say they feel more secure, according to research from consultancy firm Croner.
Gillian Dowling, a consultant at Croner, says: ‘Employees have been through a lot this past year, many experiencing large scale redundancies for the first time, and a large number accepting variations to contractual terms, including reduced working hours and pay freezes – so it’s not surprising many people are still feeling unsettled.’
Of the 1,371 workers surveyed, nearly half (46 per cent) have not received a salary increase for over a year, and 41 per cent do not expect one next year.
According to a recent poll from water cooler company Water Wellpoint, 72 per cent of employees regularly work beyond their contracted hours.
