Corporate business lacks flexibility, say working mums

Sep 01 2008

Three quarters of working mothers feel that British business is not committed to flexible working arrangements, according to a survey conducted by advisory group Mums in Control.

Rachael Taplin, managing director of the group, says: ‘We are seeing a definite rise in the mumtrepreneur, as a lot of women find the flexibility they lack in the corporate world in starting their own business.

‘Although a lot more needs to be done to help working mothers, it’s a really positive thing that women are realising they don’t need £10,000s to set up their own businesses. ’

Despite the credit crunch, 40 per cent of the 255 mothers surveyed say they feel more financially secure running their own business than working for someone else.
