Small businesses adopting green ideas
Jan 14 2009
Small companies are adopting 'green' ideas like recycling and using low-energy applications more effectively as the cost savings make a big impact, according to an expert.
Erica Russell, a sustainable business advisor from Business Link, says small firms are more driven by their owners' personal views on reducing the company's carbon footprint.
She adds that cost savings are the main driver behind many adopting green technologies and practices, as it is an 'incredibly simple way' to do so.
'When switching off your lights could save you between 18 and 20 per cent on your energy bill, for small businesses that's a pretty big deal,' Russell states.
A study from Alliance and Leicester commercial bank found 80 per cent of small firms have already made changes to boost the business's eco-credentials.
Russell states staff are essential to the success of adopting green technologies, saying one employee who is hugely passionate about the changes can make a big difference.
