Digital Britain is 'essential for businesses'

The prime minister told the Times it is 'quite right' that the attention of governments around the world is focused on the financial sector but the UK should not lose sight of technology.
Brown describes digital communications as 'a crucial component' of the country's infrastructure, leading to the production of the Digital Britain Report, to be launched today.
According to the prime minister, the availability of digital communications opens up competitiveness between firms and opportunities to interact with other countries, which have not been seen before, the newspaper reports.
The report, which will be led by Stephen Carter, the first minister for communications, technology and broadcasting, will lay out the government's strategy for working on the changes currently occurring in communications and will be published in the spring.
Brown states: 'At this time when the economic wellbeing of the country is under so much scrutiny, a plan for Digital Britain is something we cannot do without.'
