Technology means employees lose out on holidays
Sep 22 2008
Many people take mobile phones or wireless devices on holiday to keep in touch with the office, according to new research.
Research by insurance firm More Th>n suggests some staff find it hard to let go and prefer to check emails and phone calls, even when it is not necessary.
Carmel McCarthy, public relations manager for the company, says it is up to the individual worker to decide if it is essential they stay in touch.
'There's no blame on either party, it's just how you leave it with your boss when you're leaving for your holiday,' she states.
McCarthy adds Blackberrys are often taken abroad by employees.
Research from the firm finds modern technologies like Blackberry devices are blamed by over a third of holidaymakers for the disruption and stress on a break away.
McCarthy advises employees to leave their work at home and enjoy the time away, adding that writing handover notes for a colleague can help keep the calls at bay.
