Smaller businesses have greener staff

Smaller companies are more than twice as likely to have environmentally aware staff than their larger counterparts, according to research by gas and electricity provider E.ON.
The survey of 12,001 workers across Britain reveals that more than a third of employees in small companies have changed their behaviour to address climate change, compared with less than a fifth in larger, international companies.
Jim Macdonald, commercial director at E.ON, says, ‘Businesses seeking to go green must look at cutting the red tape their employees face in implementing energy efficient work practices.’
According to the poll more than two-thirds of respondents found it harder to be green at work than at home. Employees said this was due to feeling less in control of their behaviour in the workplace, with a higher proportion of staff in larger companies blaming this factor than in smaller ones.
