Business owners warned malware biggest internet concern

Jul 11 2008

Malware is 'probably the biggest concern' for the security of those using the internet at home or at work, an industry expert explains.

According to Ben Camm-Jones, news editor of Web-User, legitimate websites are being cracked into by hackers who can then install malware onto computers.

In response, businesses that allow their staff to use the internet, whether during working hours or not, should 'have a very definite policy' about what staff are and are not permitted to do online, he explains.

Making staff aware of this clear policy means that any disputes can be resolved by referring back to the written agreement, Mr Camm-Jones adds.

While many company owners are concerned about staff wasting time online, IT managers should be more worried about potential internet security breaches.

A survey carried out by McAfee and published this month has found that the average person surfing the net without internet protection received around 70 spam emails each day.
