Technology SMEs to be represented in the EU

Dec 12 2007

A new industry association has been established to give technology SMEs a voice in the EU.

The new body is called the Pan European ICT and eBusiness Network for Small to Medium Enterprises (PIN-SME).

It consists of national federations and ICT clusters from eight EU countries and is the first body to represent the needs of technology SMEs in the EU.

The UK IT Association (UKita), the national trade association for technology SMEs, is responsible for representing the UK within the body.

Chairman for UKita Fred Noble says: 'The creation of a Europe-wide network representing the needs of technology SMEs is a huge step forward for the industry.'

'The UK has a strong track record in fostering successful smaller high tech businesses, and this announcement will ensure that this continues,' he adds.

The PIN-SME will represent over 50,000 enterprises which employ approximately 200,000 people from EU countries including France, UK and Italy.

Issues such as software patents, e-invoicing and ICT standardisation will be the main focus for the body.
