Google to host free SMB sites

Jul 06 2007

Small businesses looking to conduct online marketing can take advantage of a new Google scheme that will host a free website for them.

The AdWords Starter Pages allows small firms who do not yet have a web presence to build a site and begin using Google's AdWords internet advertising program, PC Pro reports.

Even technophobes need have no fear because the Starter Page system allows businesses to use a straightforward template, which they should complete with details such as company name, trading hours, location and so on.

The site is then hosted on a Google domain.

Google is targeting the site at the '30 to 50 per cent of SMBs that do not have a website and thus cannot advertise online'.

Although the websites are fairly rudimentary - not allowing online transactions, for example - they do offer a web presence, which is becoming increasingly important in today's connected world.
