Free IT training for your business

The Learning & Skills Council has launched an information technology training trial scheme after a survey revealed three-quarters of employees waste time in their working day due to inadequate computer skills.
The training scheme, being piloted with businesses in London, will offer each employee of participating businesses up to £700 worth of IT training and certification. Individuals taking part can earn the new Information Technology Qualification (ITQ), a recognised vocational certificate in computing.
The ITQ is a training and qualification package aimed at businesses and adaptable for different kinds of business. It focuses mainly on developing skills in worktop applications, such as Word and Excel, and internet use. Trainers assess staff and the business as a whole before training starts in order to tailor it to the business’ needs.
The ITQ is set to be rolled out nationally from April this year with the Government targeting 70,000 individuals in 2005 and 100,000 in 2006.
