Develop your e-business skills

Jan 13 2003

A project being launched by the University of Central England (UCE) aims to provide an e-based network for local companies to stimulate learning and innovation and encourage collaboration between sectors in different parts of Europe.

The project, called ELive, is being run by the UCE Business School and will last one year. The creators intend to involve 120 small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), 30 of them from the West Midlands.

Ron Shelton of the UCE Business School says “The purpose of the project is to create a pan-European learning and innovation network for SMEs using web-based learning and knowledge management approaches.”

Participating companies will receive free information communications technology and training materials from the project. The UCE is looking particularly for SMEs involved in travel and tourism, automotive/transportation and design industries.

Shelton says ELive will “help companies develop their use of e-business methods where relevant to their immediate and longer-term plans. This will include enhancing the skills of up to three people in each company.”

UCE Business School is holding an ELive Roadshow throughout January for local companies who are interested in finding out more about the project. Seminars take place on the following days and venues: Thursday 16th January at Howard Johnson Hotel, West Bromwich, Tuesday 21st January at the Telford Moat House, Telford, and Thursday 23rd January at Minerva Mill, Alcester. All events are from 12-noon until 3 pm and include lunch. For further information, contact Rod Shelton on 0121 331 5200/7796, or email rod.shelton@uce.ac.uk.
