32 per cent of businesses in the UK are using social networking sites
Businesses are going social, as a third of UK companies have now signed up to online networks, new research finds.
A poll of 5,000 companies by Virgin Media reveals that 32 per cent of businesses in the UK are using social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
The survey finds that the South West is leading the way with 36 per cent of firms in the region using social networks to communicate, provide customer service, recruit and advertise.
The most popular social network is Facebook, as many organisations look to reach customers on the site via company pages, ‘like’ buttons and targeted advertising campaigns.
Anthony Bradley, group vice president at technology research company Gartner says, ‘Social media is not an end in and of itself; it is an enabler. Social media technologies are tools and, like any technology, it is how people use those tools that delivers enterprise results.’
