A £3.9 million investment has been made to improve support for manufacturing firms in London.
The London Development Agency revealed that its Manufacturing Advisory Service will be expanded to support small to medium-sized companies aiming to grow in the recession.
Under the service, small manufacturers which show the potential for growth and innovation will be given advice on how to create new products or make improvements to existing ones.
Additionally, they will receive guidance on how to introduce more efficient and greener production processes and expand their activities into new markets.
Extended support will also be provided to small businesses in the creative industries, including food and drink, digital print, and clothing.
Boris Johnson, mayor of London, comments: 'London's manufacturers have the opportunity to capitalise on the great technological innovations and advancements that are sweeping across this sector.
'This new investment will allow many more manufacturers to access the wealth of vital advice that is on offer.'
Earlier this month, regional development agency Yorkshire Forward called on local manufacturing firms to look into the support available to them, after a specialist taskforce discovered many are failing to make the most of it.
