Innovation support unveiled in Yorkshire
May 14 2009
A £3.2 million project has been launched to boost the innovation and creative potential of Yorkshire firms.
The Innovation Futures scheme will allow firms to access research and development advice on new technologies from experts at Sheffield Hallam University.
In addition, the initiative, which is supported by regional development agency Yorkshire Forward and the European Regional Development Fund, will provide consultancy services on areas such as organisational development, design solutions and sector-specific support.
Professor Mike Smith, pro vice chancellor for research and knowledge transfer at Sheffield Hallam University and leader of the project, explains: 'Innovation Futures is an exciting project that will allow regional businesses to access all of our expertise in one place.'
Jim Farmery, assistant director of business for Yorkshire Forward, adds that the drive will encourage companies which do not usually focus on research and development to develop new goods and services.
Earlier this year, plans for the £65 million Innovation City Leeds scheme were unveiled, which aim to improve the city's reputation for enterprise and increase business competitiveness.
