Q: People keep telling me wireless is the next big thing, but I work from a small office. Are there any other advantages of having wireless devices or is it just so that your office looks tidy – i.e. not covered in cables?

A wireless network is a great way to connect a number of computers. You mentioned that it means you don’t need to have large numbers of cables connected across your office, but it also means that you can share access to printers and other devices.

Another benefit of a wireless network is that it allows you to move around the office without having to plug in or change settings on your computer. Plus, it’s a quick and easy way to connect computers and share a single internet connection, as well as add new machines to the network, when necessary.

Setting up a wireless network is also easier than you might think and you don’t need a degree in IT to do it.

Just make sure you implement WPA security (and MAC-Address based authentication if possible). Stay away from WEP. Chris
