Q: Do I need terms and conditions on my website?

The terms and conditions for IT services regulate the relationship between you, the provider of IT services and your customers. The services to which IT terms apply are broadly those relating to the service being provided by your site or the maintenance of the software installation you provide.

Terms and conditions are vital to ensure your customers are agreeing to comply with your terms when browsing and using your website. These stipulated conditions also regulate the relationship between both parties when accessing and sharing information with the public.

They must always include clear definitions of language within the agreement, the provider’s and customer’s obligations, payment methods, termination points, liability and, importantly, confidentiality terms.

There are many online applications that provide document templates for terms and conditions and contractual obligations for example, Simplydocs.co.uk and BT Business Insight.

However, it’s important to ensure that your legal documents are always approved by a legal professional to ensure any potential legal issues are covered, saving you a lot of time and money in the future.
