Q: I want to start up a software business, but until I can get it off the ground I’ll continue to work for my employer. Do I have to make my business name active before I can get grants?

I’m not sure what you mean by ‘make my business name active’. Whether the business has started trading might be an issue for getting grants. There are grants available but usually for very specific purposes. The problem is finding whether your business qualifies for any of these grants. Many businesses start out seeking a grant but end up opting for a loan.

Go to the Business Link Finance & Grants website to find out what grants are available and how you can access them.
