Q: I am starting a business and hope to have customers all over the United Kingdom and Ireland. I need to know how to set up the acceptance of credit cards for over-the-phone payments. Can you help?

The easiest way to go about this is to contact your business bank manager. They can either set this function up for you or will be able to put you in contact with someone who can, such as Streamline. Although these third parties often charge for the service.

You usually need to have a business bank account in order to receive credit or debit card payments.

Have you thought about accepting payments online? You could use paypal or a merchant account. Both are relatively easy to set up and simple to operate for you and your customers.
