Q: I am considering selling my franchise, as I want to retire. How do I go about getting a valuation and what costs will be incurred?

Any good franchisor will provide help and support to franchisees who wish to leave the network and may even have some potential buyers within their recruitment system. You should initially talk to the franchisor who may be experienced in franchise re-sales and also your accountant or a business transfer agent about the valuation.
Costs will vary depending upon which route you choose – a business transfer agent will charge a fee, likewise a franchisor will charge a fee for training and supporting the incoming franchisee, plus an introduction fee if they find a buyer for you. In addition you will need the services of a solicitor to handle the legal aspects of the re-sale.
