Business Link highlighting regulatory changes

Sep 02 2008

Government start-up advisory service Business Link is highlighting the regulatory changes which are set to affect small firms from October 1st.

One of the changes includes an increase in the minimum wage to £5.73 an hour for workers aged 22 or above and £4.77 for those aged between 18 and 21.

New rules will also affect how companies are required to register their trademarks and how trademarks applications are administered.

For example, data will no longer have to be published in the Trades Marks Journal.

Doorstep sellers - including carpenters, plumbers, builders and glaziers - will be required to offer a seven-day cooling off period to allow those who have agreed to have work carried out to change their minds.

New licenses will be required for firms offering debt administration or credit information and businesses will be required to offer a certain amount of information for consumers in notices and statements.

October 1st is the second Common Commencement Date for business regulation of the year.

Statistics provided by the Federation of Small Businesses claim firms spend an average of seven hours a week dealing with red tape.
