Nominations open for mentor awards

Aug 04 2008

Small businesses are being invited to nominate inspirational mentors for a new award.

The Mentoring Works Award scheme, which is sponsored by Yell and run by social networking site horsemouth.co.uk, is intended to recognise the unsung heroes of the start-up world.

Winners will be judged by a panel of experts including co-founder of the European Mentoring Centre Professor David Clutterbuck.

Founder of horsemouth.co.uk Mary Teresa Rainey says for new businesses it can be difficult to know where to start with networking.

The British Chambers of Commerce quotes Ms Rainey: 'Running a small business can be incredibly rewarding but it can sometimes feel a little lonely, as small businesses don't have the same support networks that larger organisations would naturally provide.'

The winner of the award will receive £1,000 and will be invited to a one-to-one mentoring breakfast with a 'business hero'.

Business angels also help with mentoring up-and-coming entrepreneurs and according to the Croydon Advertiser, Croydon Enterprise is currently on the look-out for potential mentors and investors.
