Small businesses across the UK will have the chance to benefit from cash prizes and publicity, with the launch of the Parcelforce Worldwide Small Business Awards 2004.
Now in their 12th year, the awards are offering a total prize fund worth £110,000, with a handy £30,000 prize for the overall winner of UK Small Business of the Year. In addition, there are 10 regional prizes of £6,000 each and 4 further specialist awards worth £5,000 apiece.
The specialist awards are the Export Award, for excellence in doing business outside the UK, the Young Entrepreneur Award, for “exceptional talent, imagination and hard work” from a small business owner aged under 30, the self-explanatory Award for Outstanding Customer Service and Big Potential Award.
As well as the prizes, winners of the awards will benefit from the nationwide publicity that the awards generate, being covered in national newspapers as well as local press and radio.
Last year’s winner of the overall title, Neil Burns of Warrington-based Croft Engineering Services, said, “Winning the award has brought an extra level of credibility to our company, giving potential customers extra reassurance. Traffic to our website has more than doubled.”
To be eligible for the awards, which are free to enter, a business must be independently-owned, UK-based, employ 30 people or fewer, have a minimum turnover of £58,000 a year and be established for at least 2 years on 18 April 2004.
