SMEs welcome new government
The decision to form a new coalition government is a welcome move for economic stability, say businesses.
Omer Kutluoglu, CEO of 2K Manufacturing says: ‘This is great news for entrepreneurial SME businesses like ours. The combination of the Tories’ focus on commerce with the even-handed approach of the Liberals has the potential to ensure that commerce is once again supported. I am particularly delighted to see Vince Cable appointed as business secretary, and have every faith that he will get the banks back on track.’
Phil Orford, chief executive of the Forum of Private Business, says: ‘Smaller firms urgently need some degree of certainty so they can begin to plan for the future. Hopefully, Cameron’s appointment will herald the beginning of a workable government which will ensure economic stability and give smaller firms the confidence to aspire and grow.’
However, Paul King, owner of Newcastle-based software company 1DayLater, says he is unhappy with the outcome. ‘It’s good that they’ve arrived at a decision, but we’re still disappointed. If the Conservatives make cuts it could affect some of our contracts. We’ve also had a lot of support from our regional development agency, so it would be a shame to see it go under Conservative plans.’
