Jul 28 2009
Is your area rich in innovation but poor in cash? If so, it could be eligible for a £400,000 injection of start-up funding and a place on TV.
The BBC has partnered up with the distributors of National Lottery profits the Big Lottery Fund and social enterprise charity Make your Mark to look for six community-owned rural enterprises for its new show SOS Village.
Sir Clive Booth, chair of the Big Lottery Fund, says: ‘Time is running out for the UK’s rural communities to apply for a slice of Village SOS funding and for the chance to work with successful entrepreneurs to develop their ideas.’
The BBC is also looking for six entrepreneurs or ‘champions’ who will live and work in these villages for a year (for a £30,000 salary) to help drive the business idea forward. Their experiences will also be filmed as part of the series.
The closing date for applications from villages and ‘village champions' is Friday 14 August.
