Q: How can I maximise the possibility of getting funding when presenting my business to investors?

If you are looking towards a private investment into your business then it is important that you can demonstrate a clear understanding of your business and what it can achieve.  You need to know the market, the competition and have a clear idea on how your business will fulfil a consumer need.

Clearly demonstrate where the business is at present and what it can achieve with the investment. Paint a clear picture of what the additional funds will be used for and how they benefit the business.

Most investors will also want to see some kind of exit strategy. How do they sell their investment in your business. Are you planning to offer an MBO, list on AIM or sell the business in 5 years?

Understanding what your potential investors concerns and objectives are will be key and presenting this in a business plan with clear forecasting will help secure funding.

A route to resolve this issue is to evaluate your business as though you are one of the potential investors, and what you would thus need to know. An essential vehicle for this is a robust business plan including a realistic marketing plan with the potential for exit at 3 or 5 years.
