Small business owners agree wholeheartedly with the necessity of public sector cuts outlined in the Comprehensive Spending Review.
Chancellor George Osborne’s review saw him pledge to reduce the public sector deficit by £83 billion by 2014/15.
Guy Levine, CEO of marketing agency Return On Digital says: ‘Some people feel entrepreneurs have this moral obligation to look after the people who aren’t making money but if something isn’t making financial sense it must be rectified.’
Sam Clarke, director of freight forwarder Gnewt Cargo is in agreement. He says: ‘The cuts are inevitable and totally necessary because of the whole impact of the economic climate.’
Some managers take the viewpoint that the public sector must be prepared to adapt and be stronger rather than lick its wounds.
Jamie Waller, chief executive of debt management organisation JBW Group, says: ‘The spending review increases the pressure on the public sector to deliver a far more efficient service.’
John Walker, national chairman of the Federation of Small Businesses, says: ‘We all know we are living in an age of austerity and that these cuts will affect us all. But our members understand that to reduce the public sector deficit, cuts had to be made.’
