Businesses are ready to expand internationally
Businesses based in the UK are gearing up for international expansion.
Some 63 per cent are forecasting growth in their export sales, according to a survey from HSBC.
Kelly Herrick, marketing manager for light suppliers Abacus, says exporting is the key to her company’s growth strategy: ‘In this day and age it’s not possible to survive in just one market. That’s why we opened an office in St. Petersburg, as Russia’s an emerging market with a lot of strong natural resources.’
Jack Ostrowski, managing director of clothing company Yellow Octopus, says: ‘Our business model was built on the purpose of exporting goods, with 99 per cent of our turnover coming from this area. Consequently, our experience of the recession has only been through hearing about it on the news.’
Ian Tandy, HSBC's UK head of trade and supply chain, says exports are playing a key role in the global economic recovery.
Of the 300 businesses surveyed, 30 per cent see Asia as the most promising region for trade.
