Manufacturers to get £150 million boost

Manufacturing gets a lift
A £150 million package is being launched today to help manufacturers take advantage of emerging technologies.
Adam Marshall, director of policy at the British Chambers of Commerce, says: ‘The government’s investment is a welcome boost for new technologies, particularly in aerospace, where the UK has a competitive advantage.’
He adds: ‘Over the next decade, the challenge will be to get tax and regulation right, while sustaining investment in infrastructure and skills to support business growth.’
The Engineering and Technology Board (ETB) is calling for the government to back UK manufacturing through a restructuring of procurement and taxation programme.
The ETB says there are currently 2.8 million people employed in manufacturing and it is responsible for 55 per cent of all UK exports.
Earlier this month the government announced its first investments from the £405 million set aside for low carbon industries in the Budget.
