Q: I run a butcher’s shop and am looking for a small grant in order to print some leaflets and advertise the business. What types are available?

Some grants offer financial assistance, while some offer free or subsidised services ranging from advice through to practical involvement with projects. While many schemes are available nationally, some are targeted locally. Eligibility for grants is dependent on your location, type of business and what you need the funds for.

To find out more you can check the grants finder on the Business Link website.

The Grants and Support Directory allows you to search for potential sources of help with starting up or business development. The database contains grant and support schemes from central and local government as well as private organisations.

Applying for a grant can be a highly complex process. SmallBusiness.co.uk have produced a guide to how your business can get a business grant and what types of grants are available.

I have, over the past 2-3 years, tried in vain to obtain retraining and/or startup funding. The various sources mentioned in this article and the other government, local government, political parties, private institutions and total strangers in the street, have been unable or unwilling to assist. Where to now, other than Heathrow airport?

Looking for a grant for an SME in the North West for site maintenance - our company doesn't seem to 'fit' criteria for anything I can find online. Any suggestions of which agency we should approach. We are an outdoor adventure centre heavily involved in schools, youth groups etc. Thanks.
